Morrissey - Fuengirola

The Fuengirola Festival took place in a small enclosure inside a castle. Morrissey was in great spirits and very talkative. The language barrier didn't stop him from chatting with his audience. The stage wasn't large enough to accommodate the backdrop of Morrissey's name in Vegas-style letters. There were no surprise in the setlist, but "I Have Forgiven Jesus", "All The Lazy Dykes", "Rubber Ring" and "I'm Not Sorry" were reinstated after having been dropped for one show. When he came on stage Morrissey greeted the audience in Spanish by saying "Buenas noches... welcome to Costa Del Morrissey!" After set opener "Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice" he said "Very nice to be in Spain..." After "Shakespeare's Sister" the new album track "How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel?" was introduced with the line "We have a new album which is called 'You Are The Quarry' and in the Spanish chart it's number nine thousand and this is from (?)..." After the song the audience chanted Morrissey's name and the man repeated after them in the same accent: "Mo-ree-say? Mo-ree-say what?".
"Let Me Kiss You" was introduced with the line "This song was recorded by Nancy Sinatra and... who we love and we recorded it too..." Following the song Morrissey said "Full moon... Bla-bla, full moon... means nothing..." This was reportedly a comment on a painting by Picasso which was projected on a wall. Morrissey then asked his favourite fan "You okay Julia? You're not travel weary? Are you travel weary?... You're okay..." Before "The Headmaster Ritual" someone shouted "Morrissey, you are the quarry!" to which the man answered "Yes I am... and believe me, it's very painful..." He then turned this into an introduction for "The Headmaster Ritual": "And also the past can be very painful, however (undecipherable)..." In the song, instead of singing the words "he grabs and devours, he kicks me in the showers, kicks me in the showers and he grabs and devours", he just grunted and mimed them. After "The Headmaster Ritual" Morrissey proceeded with the introduction of the band: "Would you please say hello to (?)... Pedro Boz Boorer... Pedro Gary Day... Pedro Deano... Pedro Little Barrie... Mikey V Farrell... My name is Pedro! And I'm the talking mule..." Following the line "most people keep their brains between their legs" in "Such A Little Thing Makes Such A Big Difference" he added "...me too!" After the song he asked the audience "Do you have any secret messages for me? Who? Aah... International Playboys... We don't sing that song anymore... because I am no longer (an innocent thing?)... I'm 75 years old... 75... A new Picasso... (mocks fans addressing him in Spanish) Uh? Bla-bla-bla-bla-bluh... Bla-bla-bla-bla-bluh..." For the second time on this tour Morrissey sang the chorus lines at the end of "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out". He had never done this before, and only once during the Smiths days. The new single "First Of The Gang To Die" was introduced with a comment hinting at the new album's lukewarm success in Spain compared to other countries where it hit #1: "We have a new single in many countries, maybe Spain, maybe not Spain... yes Malta, maybe Spain... yes South Africa, maybe Spain... yes (Denmark?), yes Iceland, maybe Spain..." As an introduction to "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores" Morrissey asked "One question? Can I ask you one question? Si... In Spain who is the biggest crashing bore? Who? One person... Who? (shushes the audience) Who? (hands the microphone to someone who shouts Aznar, the ex Spanish president who had sided with Bush and Blair to invade Irak) Julia? Do you know? Is he a bullfighter?" The following planned titled was then introduced with the line "This song has no Spanish translation, and it's called 'All The Lazy Dykes'." After the song Morrissey said "Thank you for whistling... I (?) you..." then introduced the cover of Raymonde's "No One Can Hold A Candle To You" with the question "If I said to you 'Raymonde' you would say? (?)... Can you name one song? Very very good!" In the song he slightly changed a line to "Any day I will perish these are nervous times". Before going into "Rubber Ring" someone else shouted their request and Morrissey this time answered "'This Charming Man'? Very funny... very funny..." Then as the opening notes to "Rubber Ring" were heard he repeated "'This Charming Man'? Are you serious?" The main set closer "I'm Not Sorry" was introduced with "I will leave you not very very flatly thought (?), I'm not sorry..." When he returned to the stage before the encore he told the audience "I will see you in far off places!" In "Irish Blood, English Heart" he mistakenly sang "and no regime with both of my hands untied", realized his mistake and made an apologetic gesture before resuming the song. The complete concert was broadcast live on Spain's Radio 3, with sports-style radio host commentaries between songs. It was very likely also webcast.
