Morrissey - He's A Poet

The 1991 Kill Uncle tour ended on an excellent note. Security was very tight, and only a few fans made it on stage. There was no surprise in the setlist. Morrissey acknowledged the crowd's unfamiliarity with the yet-to-be-released "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" by announcing after its performance "That was a new song, called 'We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful' and err...". In "November Spawned A Monster" he sang "could you even bear to kiss me full on the mouth". A fan who had been stealing his towel at more than one concert on this tour repeated his act at the end of "November Spawned A Monster" after dancing with his idol and whispering a few words into his ear. Morrissey then said to the audience "I can't tell you what he said, it's very private..." Another fan managed to climb on stage during "There's A Place In Hell For Me And My Friends". He picked up a bouquet of flowers from the floor, gave it to Morrissey and danced in front of his idol for the remainder of the song. When it was finished Morrissey bowed to him and shook his hand before he returned into the crowd. The microphone kept going off during "Suedehead". Morrissey was given another one and the problem persisted. The man then asked the crowd "Can you hear me? Can you hear?" but the fans were singing the song in unison, so Morrissey decided to mime the words while swinging the microphone at waist level. Halfway into the song it finally started to work again. Between the two encores a few fans climbed on stage and security had a difficult time getting them off. During "Disappointed" another fan had the chance of dancing with Morrissey, this time a female one. The song was again ended in a dramatic fashion when, right after the line "This is the last song I will ever sing", it was suddenly stopped and Morrissey dropped his microphone. At this point he usually left stage, but on this final date of the tour, Morrissey went around and gathered the t-shirts, flowers, cards and other presents that had been thrown there by the fans over the course of the evening.
